Liquor Store Edmonton

Spirit Talk: Let’s Spin the bottle

If you are a wine and spirit enthusiast, then look no further. Liquor Store Edmonton provides a detailed description of guilty pleasures for the most exquisite wines and spirits that there is. A little fun fact, did you know that the reason why Liquor is called “Spirits” is because the vapor given off and collected during an alchemical process (as with distillation of alcohol) was called a spirit of the original material and Monks in Europe during the 12th Century believed that the spirit was removed from the “mash” during the distilling process? Wine, however, isn’t classified as spirits because they are fermented but not distilled. Wine has a relatively low alcohol content, typically less than 15%. Brandy, on the other hand, is a spirit produced by the distillation of wine and has an ABV of over 35%.

All spirits bottles have to be labeled with detailed information, thanks to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Everything from brand name to the kind of spirit it is. Further required details regarding the spirit, maybe the age of the whiskey if it’s under four years; the alcohol by volume (or ABV), which must be written as a percentage but will often also be labelled as “Proof”; the country of origin as well as address and name of the importer or bottler; and, last but not least, a government warning about the dangers of alcohol.
